April 8, 2014 – The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has summarily suspended the license to practice as a pharmacist of Narendra Cheraku, R.Ph., of Westland, Michigan, after his convictions in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan.
On December 10, 2013, Cheraku was convicted of one felony count of Health Care Fraud and one felony count of Possession with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substances. Cheraku was sentenced to probation for six months or until deportation, and ordered to pay an assessment and restitution totaling $9,645.06.
On March 26, 2014, LARA issued an order summarily suspending Cheraku’s license pursuant to the Public Health Code, which provides for the mandatory suspension of a health professional upon the conviction of a felony, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years, or a controlled substance related conviction.
