April 25, 2014 - The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has immediately suspended the license to practice medicine of Virinder Singh Grewal, M.D., of Okemos based on his conviction in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan.
On January 22, 2014, Grewal was convicted of one felony count of Misprision of a Felony. The conviction was based on Grewal’s failure to report knowledge of a felony to the proper authorities and concealment of health care fraud. Grewal was sentenced to probation for a period of 24 months and ordered to pay $395,000.00 restitution.
On April 7, 2014, LARA issued an order summarily suspending Grewal’s license, pursuant to the Public Health Code which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional’s license upon the conviction of a felony, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years, or a controlled substance-related conviction.
