July 3, 2014 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) completed construction this week on the roundabout just east of Washington Street along M-20/US-10 Business Route (BR) at the Patrick Road crossover in Midland. Work on the roundabout began in April and was expected to be completed by late July but wrapped up ahead of schedule in time for the July 4 holiday. MDOT invested $1.1 million in safety improvements at this intersection.
"This project will decrease traffic delays and congestion and is expected to increase motorist safety by eliminating the traditional intersection of these busy roadways," said Bill Mayhew, MDOT Mt. Pleasant Transportation Service Center manager.
The roundabout is constructed at a higher elevation than the previous crossover, and the roadway was straightened to provide motorists with a clearer view as they approach.
Lighting and landscaping work are all that remain and will require the roundabout to close briefly. MDOT will announce remaining work once a schedule is determined.
