The Michigan State Police Prevention Services Section has a variety of safety information for families:
Crime Prevention
It is important to be aware a crime can occur, anticipating the location, time, and what actions to take to reduce the chance of it happening. Crime prevention is key to stopping the ability and opportunity for a criminal to make you a victim. The use of instinct, knowledge, common sense, and awareness can make you a tough target.
Free fingerprinting/photographing of children as identification for parents is provided during specific community programs. Please contact your local state police post community service officer (PCSO) for more information.
The Michigan Amber Alert plan is a partnership between law enforcement and the media to help in the immediate dissemination of information to the public about an endangered missing child.
Internet Safety for Parents & Kids Prevention and awareness is the key to deterring cyber-predators and exposure to inappropriate material. Children are trusting, naïve, and curious. They should be supervised by parents who have a fundamental understanding of computer technology and the Internet.
School Safety
The Michigan Department of State Police (MSP) is proud to introduce its School Liaison Officer Program. The Teaching, Educating, And Mentoring (T.E.A.M.) project is a proactive effort to make schools and communities safer. T.E.A.M. also promotes responsible citizenship and positive character traits among students. The School Liaison Officer Program provided by MSP teaches K-12 curriculum.
Safe Driving
Research shows that child safety seats, when used correctly, can reduce fatalities among children less than five years old by 71 percent. That makes child safety seats one of the most effective safety innovations ever developed. Please see the following links for more information:
