Foster Care

The Children's Foster Care Services Program provides placement and supervision of children who are the responsibility of the Department of Human Services (DHS) and are under the jurisdiction of the Family Court, or children whose parents have voluntarily released their parental rights. The goal of Foster Care is to give the child a home and a family to care for him/her until he/she is either returned to his/her birth parents or adopted.

DHS is in need of caring individuals who can provide a safe and nurturing home environment for children who have been placed out of their home due to abuse or neglect. For further information on becoming a foster parent, see the Licensing section of this website or contact your local Department of Human Services office. Additional information can be found under the Frequently Asked Questions section.
