| Meet the Director: Sharon L. Gire, MSW |
Appointed by Governor Jennifer Granholm in June 2003, Sharon L. Gire serves as Director of the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging. She is responsible for directing Michigan's aging network, the system providing services to older persons throughout the state.
At the time of her appointment as OSA director, Ms. Gire served as the Vice President of the State Board of Education providing leadership in public education throughout Michigan. Ms. Gire also served as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1987-1998. There she chaired the Human Services and Children's Committee; Education Committee; served as the Associate Speaker Pro Tempore of the Michigan Legislature; chaired a subcommittee on Medicaid Managed Care; and was a minority sponsor of the Patient's Bill of Rights reforms.
Ms. Gire has been a consultant for United Way Community Services and the Michigan League for Human Services. She has also served as Director of the Northeast Interfaith Center for Racial Justice; area supervisor to Big Brothers/Big Sisters; member of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners; member of the Mt. Clemens City Commission; served as Mt. Clemens Mayor Pro Tempore; and worked as an adjunct professor at Saginaw Valley State University.
Director Gire resides in Clinton Township with her husband, Dana. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master's degree in Social Work.
