Preparing for Aging in Holland -- Blueprint for Action
The Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging approved recognition to the City of Holland for the Elder-Friendly Community Assessment completed by Blueprint for Action: Preparing for Aging in Holland. Some of the strengths the Community for a Lifetime review panel noted included the following:
Advanced planning helped to involve a wide range of participants in the process.
The work groups were very open about how they looked at their community, including looking at the degree to which the community is culturally sensitive.
Identified specific barriers that restrict access to community assets or limit livability.
"Snowmelt" attracts seniors to downtown areas.
Holland is a highly philanthropic community.
Sub-questions developed by work groups help identify livability finer points and provide great detail for community quality improvement action plans.
