| Foster Grandparent Program |

This program provides opportunities for low-income men and women 60 years of age and older to assist children and youth who need personal attention and assistance in schools, hospitals, juvenile detention facilities, day care centers, community programs, and private homes. Foster Grandparents are involved in mentoring and tutoring, they offer emotional support to child victims of abuse and neglect, and they care for premature infants and children with physical disabilities and severe illness. Foster Grandparents serve on average 20 hours per week and receive a stipend of $2.65 per hour. In addition, the volunteers receive transportation assistance, insurance, a daily meal and annual medical check-up. All Foster Grandparents complete 40 hours of orientation prior to service and are required to participate in monthly in-service training sessions. Potential volunteers must be 60 years of age or older and low income.
