How can I open up an Adult Day Care or Adult Day Service?

Answer:
If you want to open up an Adult Day Care you should plan ahead. Find out more about what is involved. You will need to consider what the need for the service is in your area, the target population you plan to serve, what level of care you intend to provide, what other homes like this are already operating in your area, and what requirements you may need to meet in order to operate the home.

There are no state licensing requirements in Michigan for operating an Adult Day Care, however, local codes for health and public safety do apply. The Michigan Office of Services to the Aging (OSA) does require that providers of adult day care who receive state or federal funding from an Area Agency on Aging must comply with the (OSA) Minimum State Service Standards for Adult Day Care.

For more information on developing an adult day care, see the list Adult Day Services Resources.

Additional information on adult day care is available through the Michigan Adult Day Services Association at telephone numbers 877-362-2322 and 616-485-5018.
