The Michigan Office of Services to the Aging, in conjunction with the Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging and in cooperation with Michigan State University Extension provides a statewide community recognition program entitled "Community for a Lifetime." The program was established in January of 2007 for the purpose of supporting and recognizing community efforts to conduct assessments and initiate improvements to make communities more elder friendly and livable for all ages.

The program provides recognition to communities and local government entities that have completed a community assessment for livability and/or implemented improvements recommended by a livable community assessment.
