Michigan Tuition Grant Fact Sheet

The Michigan Tuition Grant program is available to Michigan residents with financial need who plan to attend or are attending independent, degree-granting Michigan postsecondary institutions.
Application
Applicants must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who file by March 1 will receive priority consideration. Students are encouraged to file their FAFSA on the Web at
www.fafsa.ed.gov . Paper forms are available from high school counselors and college financial aid offices. Students must file a renewal FAFSA every year to determine possible continued program eligibility.
Program Limits
Awards are restricted to tuition and mandatory fees. Awards pay up to a maximum of $2,100 per academic year. Students may receive the equivalent of 10 semesters or 15 terms of full-time assistance as an undergraduate and 6 semesters or 9 terms for graduate studies. Future awards are subject to available and approved funding.
Eligibility
General eligibility requirements include:
- Demonstrate financial need
- Enroll at least half time at an approved independent, degree-granting,
Michigan postsecondary institution
- Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate or meet the institution's
Ability to Benefit
Standards
- Be a Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- For renewal, meet institution's satisfactory academic progress (SAP) policy
- Not be incarcerated
