What is a Grad PLUS Loan?

As a result of the Higher Education Reconciliation Act of
2005 (HERA), graduate and professional students are now
eligible to borrow under the Federal PLUS Loan Program.
Federal Grad PLUS loans are educational loans made by
private lending institutions and nonprofit public agencies.
These loans are insured by the Michigan Higher Education
Assistance Authority-Michigan Guaranty Agency (MGA)
and reinsured by the federal government. A list of
participating lenders is available from MGA upon request.

Who is eligible?
You may be eligible for a Grad PLUS loan if you are a
graduate or professional student. You must have a good
credit history. A lender will perform a standard credit check
with a national credit bureau before approving the loan.
The school's financial aid office will determine if you are
eligible to apply for a Grad PLUS loan.
