• Federal Stafford Loans Federal Stafford loans are offered directly to students from the government and participating lending institutions. | • Federal PLUS Loans Federal Plus loans are offered to parents of eligible students who are enrolled in eligible postsecondary schools. | • Federal Consolidation Loans Federal Consolidation loans are offered to borrowers that are interested in combining all of their outstanding federal student loans into one loan, with one lender and one payment. | • The Michigan Alternative Student Loan (MI-LOAN) Program The MI-LOAN is a private alternative loan for students that need assistance in covering their college costs. | • Borrower Benefits* Effective June 30, 2010, student loans from the Michigan Higher Education Student Loan Authority (MHESLA) will no longer become eligible for an interest rate subsidy (known as a "borrower benefit") from MHESLA. Please see web notice for further information. | • Federal Supplemental Loan for Students (SLS) Effective in 1994, the Federal Supplemental Loan for Students (SLS) was replaced with the unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan. | • Electronic Payment Savings (EPS)* Electronic Payment Savings provides all borrowers with an option for automated loan payments and an interest rate reduction of 1/4 of 1% (0.25) on all Federal Family Education Loan Program loans and MI-LOAN Program alternative student loans. |
