April 2013 is Financial Literacy Month
The Michigan House of Representatives has declared April 2013 as Financial Literacy Month in the state of Michigan. “Therefore, be it Resolved by the House of Representatives, that we encourage raising public awareness about the need for increased financial literacy in our schools and among our children and the serious problems that are associated with a lack of understanding of personal finances. We call on each parent, school, business, financial institution, community organization, and unit of government to observe the month with appropriate programs and activities.” In response to that call, the Michigan Education Trust and Michigan Education Savings Plan have partnered with MoneySmartWeek.org to sponsor events in Michigan. Sign up for one of the free financial programs during Money Smart Week® Michigan, April 20-27, 2013. To find programs in your area, visit Money Smart Events in Michigan. Money Smart Week® events are open to the public at businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, nonprofits and government agencies throughout the state of Michigan on topics including kids and money, unemployment, managing student debt and retirement.
