Michigan Challenged to Remain in Top Five of "Change the World with ENERGY STAR" Contest, Pledges Taken until the End of March

March 18, 2009

ENERGY STAR has challenged the State of Michigan to finish in the top five government organizations taking pledges as part of its "Change the World" campaign to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced.  Pledges will be taken through the end of March at energystar.gov/changetheworld.  Pledgers should select "State of Michigan" as the organization that referred them.

The State of Michigan is currently ranked third among government organizations acting as pledge drivers for the "Change the World" campaign.

"To date, Michiganians have pledged to reduce greenhouse gases by over 8 million pounds," noted MPSC Commissioner Monica Martinez.  "Those decisions have saved ratepayers over $600,000.   Michigan now has a chance to make sure it finishes the pledge year in the top five.  I encourage all Michiganians to take the pledge to save energy, save money and help protect the environment."

On the ENERGY STAR "Change the World" Web site, people have the opportunity to pledge to switch to energy efficient lighting, make improvements to their heating and cooling systems, weatherize their homes, and purchase ENERGY STAR qualified products.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
