The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today released three Requests for Proposal (RFP). The RFPs are for low-income energy assistance grants; low-income energy efficiency grants; and Michigan energy efficiency grants for all customer classes. The grants are funded by the Low‑Income and Energy Efficiency Fund (LIEEF). The deadlines for the proposals are on two separate dates, as outlined below.
Up to $55 million is available for low-income energy assistance grants. The purpose of these grants is to provide shut-off and other protection for low-income customers.
Up to $14 million is available for low-income energy efficiency grants. The purpose of these grants is to help low-income customers make their homes more energy efficient.
The deadline for the above low-income proposals is noon on Wednesday, April 22.
Up to $1 million is available for the Michigan energy efficiency grants. The purpose of these grants is to improve energy efficiency, strengthen the economy of Michigan, and promote environmental conservation through the promotion and increased use of ENERGY STAR Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs)
The deadline for the Michigan energy efficiency proposals is noon on Friday, April 24.
"By this action, the MPSC is making available much-needed assistance to help low-income customers with their bills, to help low-income customers make their homes more energy efficient, and to promote and increase the use of CFLs," said MPSC Chairman Orjiakor Isiogu.
