April 16, 2009
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today formally adopted gas safety standards. The standards govern gas pipeline safety and are based on federal standards.
The MPSC on December 23, 2008 approved the revised rules and submitted them to the Legislative Service Bureau and the State Office of Administrative Hearings and Rules (SOAHR) for their formal approvals, which were granted on Feb. 20 and 26, 2009, respectively.
The rules were then filed on February 27 with the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR), which had 15 session days to object to the rules by filing a notice of objection. Because JCAR did not take any action to prevent the rules from being transmitted to the Secretary of State, the MPSC today formally adopted the rules.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
