Contact:  Judy Palnau (517) 241-3323

April 22, 2009

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today issued an order approving a Michigan energy efficiency grant totaling $8,102,943 to Public Sector Consultants for the development of a Michigan Saves system, a statewide, innovative energy efficiency and distributed renewable energy financing system.

"My fellow Commissioners and I are extremely pleased to announce this grant," said MPSC Chairman Orjiakor Isiogu.  "The Michigan Saves system will benefit state residents, businesses, and energy providers by reducing consumer energy expenditures while simultaneously supporting thousands of new jobs, new businesses and business expansion in Michigan."

Michigan Saves will establish an administrative structure that will operate a supportive fund to serve as an initial capital pool available to finance the installation of energy efficiency measures and renewable energy systems with no up‑front cost to utility customers (commercial, industrial, residential).

The grant is funded by the Low-Income and Energy Efficiency Fund and monies awarded to the State of Michigan by the U.S. Department of Energy.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
