The Michigan Public Service Commission was instrumental in Michigan's success in receiving two federal grants from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration totaling nearly $4.8 million. The grants were awarded December 22, 2009 and September 27, 2010 and are funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. June 19, 2015 – The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today commended Houghton County for becoming the latest Michigan community to be certified as a "connected" community that has developed a broadband and technology plan to expand broadband access, adoption and use.
