The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) Chair J. Peter Lark today noted that the September 30 deadline to apply for Michigan’s Home Heating Credit in 2004 is quickly approaching. The credit assists low-income people with winter energy bills.
“Many times, low-income residents face financial challenges in paying their winter heating bills,” said Lark. “The Home Heating Credit is one way to assist with them. The Michigan Public Service Commission encourages low-income people to apply for this important credit before the deadline – September 30.”
The Home Heating Credit is funded by federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program grants. The program is administered by the Michigan Department of Treasury. The form (1040CR-7) may be obtained by calling 1-800-827-4000. It is also available on the Department of Treasury’s Web site: michigan.gov/treasury. Many Secretary of State branch offices, public libraries and Family Independence Agency (FIA) offices also have the forms available.
Eligible customers must have their homestead in Michigan, must own or rent the home in which they live, and income must fall within certain limits, as the following chart indicates:
