The Michigan Public Service today granted Broadwing Communications, LLC and Allband Communications Cooperative licenses to provide basic local exchange service. The Commission found both companies’ applications in the public interest.
Broadwing Communications on Sept. 22 filed an application for a license to provide basic local exchange service in the exchanges currently served by Verizon North Inc., Verizon North Systems and SBC Michigan. At the same time, the company requested a temporary license to allow it to begin the prompt negotiation of interconnection agreements. The Commission granted the company a temporary license on Nov. 9.
Broadwing Communications, LLC is headquartered in Austin, Texas.
Allband Communications on July 9 filed an application for a license to provide basic local exchange service in the proposed Robbs Creek Exchange. The Commission granted the company a temporary license on Aug. 31.
Allband Communications Cooperative is headquartered in Curran, Mich.
The Commission conditioned the licenses on compliance with the Commission's anti-slamming procedures, the number portability provisions of the Michigan Telecommunications Act, and the Commission's number reclamation process.
Before beginning to offer service, the companies must submit tariffs reflecting the services they will offer and identifying the exchanges in which they will offer service.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Labor & Economic Growth.
