The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today granted a license to SUEZ Energy Resources, NA, Inc. as an alternative electric supplier (AES).
An AES is a person selling electric generation service to retail customers in Michigan, other than a person who physically delivers electricity to retail customers.
The Commission approved the license because it determined that SUEZ Energy Resources NA, Inc. possesses sufficient technical competence to engage in energy transactions, is capable of meeting safety requirements for electric operations, and complies with other lawful obligations.
Finding the company’s application in the public interest, the Commission noted that competition can be advantageous to Michigan residents. By granting this request for a license, opportunities for competition may expand.
The Commission said that SUEZ Energy Resources NA, Inc. may begin operation in Michigan after it establishes an office in the state, as the MPSC requires of all AESs.
In addition, the Commission conditioned the license on compliance with all applicable provisions of the Customer Choice and Electricity Reliability Act and the MPSC’s orders and providing service to customers within a reasonable time. Failure to comply may result in revocation of the license or other penalties.
SUEZ Energy Resources, NA, Inc., headquartered in Houston, Texas, applied for a license on March 28.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Labor & Economic Growth.
