The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today granted Universal Gas & Electric Corporation a license as an alternative gas supplier (AGS), subject to establishing a Michigan office before starting operations.
The MPSC determined that the application is in the public interest and that by granting this request for a license, opportunities for competition may expand.
In addition, the Commission conditioned the license on compliance with all applicable provisions of Public Act 634 of 2002 and the Commission’s orders and administrative rules. Failure to comply with any of these provisions may result in revocation of the license or other penalties. In addition, the granting of the license to Universal Gas & Electric Corporation is conditioned on the provision of service to customers within a reasonable time. Failure to do so may result in revocation of the license.
Universal Gas & Electric Corporation applied for a license on July 11, showing its compliance with the requirements for an alternative gas supplier under Public Act 634 (except for having a Michigan office) and the Commission’s order (U-13694), which established a licensing procedure for AGSs.
The company is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Labor & Economic Growth.
