November 9, 2006
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today suspended until Jan. 12, 2007, the effective date of a proposed 9 percent rate increase from the Michigan Movers Association (MMA) on the intrastate shipment of household goods outside of the Detroit commercial zone. The Commission ordered the MMA and its member carriers to fully justify the proposed rate increase before the Commission. The pre-hearing conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Nov. 21.
The MPSC staff found that the MMA's application raises concerns that the proposed rates may not be just and reasonable.
The MMA filed an application on behalf of its member carriers requesting a general rate increase of 9 percent on Sept. 29.
The MMA represents over 140 member carriers in Michigan who ship household goods throughout Michigan .
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Labor & Economic Growth.
