MPSC to Hold Hearing to Determine Appropriate Primary Basic Local Exchange Service Rate for AT&T Michigan

Contact:  Judy Palnau (517) 241-3323

November 21, 2006

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today issued an order announcing that hearings will be held to determine the appropriate primary basic local exchange service (PBLES) rate for A&T Michigan, after its end-user common line charge (EUCL) is discontinued.

The utility had requested that the Commission act on its filing without an investigation.

AARP Michigan and the Michigan Attorney General requested that an evidentiary hearing be held to evaluate whether the new PBLES rate would be just and reasonable.

Today's order notes that interested parties may file petitions to intervene by Nov. 27. A pre-hearing conference in this case will be held on Nov. 30.

On Sept. 1, AT&T Michigan filed an application that would increase its PBLES rate by $2.78 and eliminate its $2.78 EUCL charge, pursuant to the Michigan Telecommunications Act.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Labor & Economic Growth.

Case No. U-15036
