October 3, 2002
The Michigan Public Service Commission today suspended a proposed 5% rate increase from the Michigan Movers and Warehousemen’s Association on the intrastate shipment of household goods outside of the Detroit commercial zone from October 21, 2002 until December 2, 2002. The Commission ordered a prehearing conference to be held on October 17, 2002 at 9:00 a.m. for the MMWA and its member carriers to fully justify the proposed rate increase. The Commission found that the MMWA’s application raises concerns that the proposed rates may not be just and reasonable. On September 6, 2002, the MMWA filed an application on behalf of its 154 member carriers requesting a general rate increase of 5%.
The Michigan Movers and Warehousemen’s Association represents 154 member carriers in Michigan who ship household goods outside the Detroit commercial zone.
