October 7, 2003
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today approved a rate increase for customers of MCImetro Access Transmission Services LLC's residential unlimited calling plan RLD. Monthly rates under this plan will increase from $14.99 to $16.99. Calling plan RLD provides for unlimited local calling without a package of features.
MCImetro applied for the increase on July 22, 2003. The company subsequently issued a notice to its customers advising them of its application and the opportunity to submit comments on the matter. The MPSC staff on Sept. 25, 2003 submitted its comments, indicating that MCImetro's application should be approved. The Commission received no other comments.
The Commission found that MCImetro's application meets the requirements of Section 304 of the Michigan Telecommunications Act, which applies to rate increases that exceed one percent less than the increase in the Consumer Price Index. It found that the rate increase is just and reasonable, and within the range of rates charged by other telecommunication providers.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Consumer and Industry Services.
