November 25, 2003
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today issued an order approving a settlement agreement that authorizes members of the Michigan Movers Association (MMA) to increase their rates by 4.05 percent.
The MMA on Oct. 7, 2003 filed an application for a general rate increase of 8 percent, with an effective date of Nov. 23, 2003. The MPSC on Oct. 23, 2003 issued a suspension order and notice of hearing to investigate whether the proposed rate increase would result in just and reasonable rates.
After a hearing on the issue, the parties submitted a settlement agreement resolving all the issues in the case.
The settlement agreement approved today authorizes a rate increase mentioned above, effective no sooner than November 26, 2003, finding it reasonable and in the public interest.
The MMA represents 162 member carriers in Michigan who ship household goods outside the Detroit commercial zone.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Consumer and Industry Services.
