Alpena Granted $250,000 for Rehabilitation
Alpena Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Executive Director Keith Molin recently announced funding for $250,000 to assist with the rehabilitation of rental units in the city of Alpena. The funding for this project is available through HOME Targeted Revitalization Fund and will be administered by MSHDA's office of Community Development.
"The pride of Michigan is represented by each of our communities," said Molin. "The funding provided through these grants will allow communities like Alpena to grow and thrive and create new economic and job opportunities."
The city of Alpena will use grant funds to assist landlords with the rehabilitation of rental units. The project will rehabilitate ten (10) rental units for quality rental housing in central Alpena, near the downtown. The neighborhood is targeted by the local Habitat Vision 2020 program; investment incentives for owners of rental units will help auure that rentals are kept up in accordance with increasing neighborhood housing standards.
MSHDA's vision in the 21st century is to improve the quality of life for all Michigan residents and create vibrant communities by focusing on providing safe, affordable housing through homeownership and rental programs; ending homelessness; and revitalizing neighborhoods and downtowns. MSHDA's loans and operating expenses are financed through the sale of tax-exempt and taxable bonds and notes to private investors, not from state tax revenues.
