Michigan Vehicle Code

The Michigan Vehicle Code provides a standard for traffic laws designed to facilitate traffic flow and reduce traffic crashes. State Police troopers provide "firm but fair" enforcement of these laws, with a special emphasis on speeders, drinking and driving, failure to use safety belts, and the aggressive driver.

The Traffic Services Section provides instruction to State Police recruits and serves as a resource of information on traffic law issues to all law enforcement agencies in the state, as well as to prosecutors, magistrates, and judges. Proposed changes in traffic law are reviewed and given a detailed analysis by section personnel, as the Michigan State Police is called upon frequently to testify in both the House and Senate Transportation Committees on traffic law issues.
