LANSING. At a special ceremony today in Lansing, Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Colonel Peter C. Munoz presented Trooper Andrew Douville of the Battle Creek Post with the MSP Lifesaving Award. He is credited with performing significant action resulting in the saving of a life.
On Nov. 23, 2008, Douville responded to a residential fire. Despite thick smoke and intense heat, Douville and a responding firefighter gained entry into the burning home. They located an unconscious woman and helped her to safety.
Upon reviewing the circumstances of this incident, the MSP Board of Awards concluded without Douville's quick and selfless actions, the woman would have perished in the fire.
Douville enlisted with the department in 1994, and graduated as a member of the 110th Trooper Recruit School. He was first assigned to the Flint Post and served at the Criminal Investigation Division before the Battle Creek Post. He currently resides in Battle Creek with his wife and three children.
