LANSING. At a special ceremony today in Lansing, Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Colonel Peter C. Munoz presented Trooper Troy C. Allen of the Lansing Post with the MSP Lifesaving Award. He is credited with performing significant action resulting in the saving of a life.
While off duty in the State of Wyoming on Sept. 30, 2008, Allen witnessed a traffic crash. He immediately notified emergency personnel and began assisting the crash victim, who was not breathing. After emergency personnel arrived, Allen remained in the vehicle to keep the victim steady during extraction with the Jaws of Life.
Upon reviewing the circumstances of this incident, the MSP Board of Awards concluded Allen's quick actions and knowledge of first aid techniques saved the victim's life.
Allen enlisted with the department in 1997, and graduated as a member of the 115th Trooper Recruit School. He has served at the Brighton Post and the Criminal Investigation Division. In 1998, Allen received the MSP Bravery Award for his actions in responding to a suicidal subject. He currently resides in Ashley with his wife, Jennifer, and son, Luke.
