Paw Paw Post Trooper Receives Lifesaving Award - Trooper Daniel Lewis LANSINGAt a special ceremony today in Lansing, Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Colonel Peter C. Munoz presented Trooper Daniel Lewis of the Paw Paw Post with the MSP Lifesaving Award.  He is credited with performing significant actions resulting in the saving of a life.

On June 1, 2008, Lewis was the first emergency responder on the scene with a subject who had no pulse or respiration.  Lewis was able to open an airway and with the assistance of neighbors, started CPR.  Lewis continued CPR until paramedics arrived with an automated external defibrillator which was used to revive the subject.

Upon reviewing the circumstances of this incident, the MSP Board of Awards concluded Lewis' quick actions and knowledge of first aid techniques saved the subject's life.

Lewis joined the department in 1997, and graduated as a member of the 115th Trooper Recruit School.  Upon graduation, Lewis was assigned to the Paw Paw Post.  A native of Rogers City, Lewis received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Ferris State University.  He currently resides in Paw Paw with his wife, Candace, and two sons, Zachary and Trevor.
