LANSING. Motor carrier officers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) teamed up with the Kentucky State Police and Ohio State Highway Patrol for a one-day commercial motor vehicle enforcement effort along I-75 that resulted in 555 driver and vehicle safety violations.
On May 20, seventy participating officers from the three states wrote 172 traffic citations and issued 111 verbal warnings for infractions such as speeding, seat belt use, improper lane use, unsafe equipment and overweight violations. Officers also conducted 361 safety inspections, resulting in 48 commercial vehicles and 24 commercial vehicle drivers being placed out-of-service.
"These multi-state operations are one way to raise awareness among commercial vehicle operators and passenger car drivers about the importance of sharing the road safely and complying with established traffic laws," stated Capt. Robert R. Powers, commander of the MSP Traffic Safety Division.
Enforcement in Michigan was conducted along I-75 from the Michigan/Ohio line to Sault Ste. Marie.
