LANSING. At a special ceremony today in Lansing, Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Peter C. Munoz presented Sgt. Victor Rodgers of the Battle Creek Post with the MSP Lifesaving Award. He is credited with performing significant actions resulting in the saving of a life.
While off duty on April 3, 2009, Rodgers was visiting a family member when neighbor asked about an elderly gentleman who had not been seen in the area for several days. Peering through a window in the man's residence, Rodgers observed him lying on the floor motionless. Rodgers forced his way into the home and administered first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived.
Upon reviewing the circumstances of this incident, the MSP Board of Awards concluded Rodgers' quick actions and knowledge of first aid techniques helped save the man's life.
Rodgers enlisted with the department in 1987, graduating as a member of the 101st Trooper Recruit School. Prior to being assigned to the Battle Creek Post, he served at the Niles and Rockford posts. Rodgers was promoted to sergeant in 2000.
