LANSING. At a special ceremony today in Lansing, Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Peter C. Munoz presented Tpr. Lori Price and Tpr. Patrick Sliger of the Sault Ste. Marie Post with the MSP Lifesaving Award. They are credited with performing significant actions resulting in the saving of a life.
On Aug. 22, 2009, Price and Sliger responded to assist two subjects whose canoe had capsized approximately 100 yards from shore. The troopers, accompanied by two border patrol agents, used a boat from a nearby residence to paddle out to the subjects and toss them rings from a nearby ferry. They then pulled both subjects into the boat and brought them to shore where they were treated for hypothermia by emergency medical personnel.
Upon reviewing the circumstances of this incident, the MSP Board of Awards concluded that without the quick actions of Price and Sliger, the subjects would not have survived.
Price enlisted with the department in 1998, graduating as a member of the 116th Trooper Recruit School. Prior to her assignment at the Sault Ste. Marie Post, she served at the St. Ignace Post.
Sliger enlisted with the department in 1996, graduating as a member of the 114th Trooper Recruit School. After graduation he was assigned to the Sault Ste. Marie Post.
