LANSING. At a special ceremony today in Lansing, Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Peter C. Munoz presented Tpr. Jeremy Sloan of the Bridgeport Post with the MSP Lifesaving Award. He is credited with performing significant actions resulting in the saving of a life.
While patrolling on March 1, 2009, Sloan was flagged down by a motorist who witnessed a car crash into the highway median wall. Sloan quickly determined the driver had no pulse and was not breathing. With the motorist's assistance, he removed the driver from the vehicle and began administering first aid.
After several minutes, a Bridgeport Township Police Department officer arrived at the scene, bringing with him an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The officers administered a shock from the AED, after which the man's heart began to beat again.
Upon reviewing the circumstances of this incident, the MSP Board of Awards concluded Sloan's quick actions and knowledge of first aid techniques helped save the man's life.
Sloan enlisted with the department in 2000, graduating as a member of the 119th Trooper Recruit School. After graduation he was assigned to the Bridgeport Post.
