LANSING. Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Peter C. Munoz is pleased to announce that Tpr. Robert Carter of the L'Anse Post is the recipient of the MSP Lifesaving Award.
On July 18, 2009, Carter responded to a report that a male subject was suffering a possible heart attack. An officer with the Baraga Police Department was already at the scene administering first aid. Carter arrived with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and the man's heart began to beat again after the officers used the AED to administer shocks. The man was then transported to the hospital.
Upon reviewing the circumstances of this incident, the MSP Board of Awards concluded Carter's quick actions and knowledge of first aid techniques helped save the man's life.
Carter enlisted with the department in 1996, graduating as a member of the 114th Trooper Recruit School. Prior to his assignment at the L'Anse Post, he served at the Bad Axe Post.
