EAST LANSING. Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Peter C. Munoz is announcing the retirement of Major Robert E. Clark, effective Jan. 29, 2010. Clark enlisted with the MSP in 1979.
Clark has served as commander of the Field Services Bureau, East Region since June 2008. In this position, he provided executive direction and leadership to the enlisted and civilian employees assigned to 26 posts in 27 counties in the eastern Lower Peninsula, as well as the Criminal Investigation Division.
"Throughout his career, Major Clark showed enthusiasm for educating others," stated Munoz. "His specialty in narcotics investigations made him an asset as both a detective and commander. I wish him the best as he begins the next chapter of his life."
Clark graduated as a member of the 96th Trooper Recruit School. During his career, Clark served at the Niles, Flat Rock and Northville posts, as well as the Training Division and the Criminal Investigation Section, Down River Area Narcotics Office and Office of Monroe Narcotics Investigation, before being promoted to captain and commander of the Second District in 2005.
In his 30 years with the department, Clark has held the ranks of trooper, detective trooper, sergeant, lieutenant, detective lieutenant, detective first lieutenant, inspector, captain and major.
Clark holds a bachelor of arts degree from William Penn College in Iowa, and is a graduate of the 185th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. A native of Lincoln Park, Clark currently lives in Monroe with his wife, Valerie.
In November 2009, he was elected to serve as Mayor of the City of Monroe.
