May 13, 2010 - Flint Post Members Receive Lifesaving AwardContact: F/Lt. Richard Arnold, Flint Post, (810) 732-1111Agency: State Police
Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Peter C. Munoz is pleased to announce that Tpr. William Huey and Chaplain James Salo of the Flint Post are recipients of the MSP Lifesaving Award.
On Sept. 2, 2009, Huey and Salo responded to a report of an elderly woman in distress and found an unconscious woman who was not breathing and had no pulse. They administered first aid until the woman was revived and could be transported to a local hospital.
Upon reviewing the circumstances of this incident, the MSP Board of Awards concluded the quick actions and knowledge of first aid techniques by Huey and Salo helped extend the woman's life.
Huey enlisted with the department in 1999, graduating as a member of the 118th Trooper Recruit School. After graduation he was assigned to the Flint Post.
Salo joined the MSP Chaplain Corps in 1993, and volunteered at the Bridgeport and Corunna posts before transferring to the Flint Post 12 years ago. He served as Executive Chaplain from 1998 to 2002, and is currently Executive Director of the American Police Chaplains Association - a nationwide non-profit organization providing assistance to police officers in their daily work.
