State Police Release 2003 Crime Report

LANSING.The Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center today released the 2003 Uniform Crime Report which provides statewide total crime data analysis and crime trends for the State of Michigan.

Officials report both Index Crime and overall crime figures statistically decreased between 2002 and 2003. The most significant change occurred in the category of Murder where the state registered a 9.09 percent reduction in reported crimes. Violent Crime, which includes murder, rape, aggravated assault and robbery, was down 5.31 percent overall.

Despite decreasing 11 percent over the last ten years, Motor Vehicle Theft did increase 7.98 percent last year.

The entire report, including local crime data from 2003 and previous years, is available on the Michigan State Police web site at www.michigan.gov/msp. Click on "Publications, Forms & Statistics", then "Statistics", then "Crime Reporting" to view the 2003 Uniform Crime Report.
