Northville Forensic Scientists Receive Awards

East Lansing.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is pleased to announce that Cheryl Lozen and Guy Nutter of the Northville Forensic Science Laboratory received awards from the Midwestern Association of Forensic Science (MAFS) for their contribution to the forensic science field.

Lozen and Nutter were nominated by their peers for demonstrating an outstanding level of motivation and leadership in the forensic science field. Lozen received the Outstanding Forensic Scientist Award, having more than five years experience in forensic science and for outstanding service to MAFS and the forensic science field. Nutter received the New Forensic Scientist of the Year Award, having less than five years experience as a forensic scientist and for his outstanding service. This is the second consecutive year that a forensic scientist from the MSP received an award from the MAFS.

Lozen joined the department in 1998, and currently works in Microchemistry Unit. Prior to joining the MSP, Lozen worked for the Illinois State Police, Bureau of Forensic Science from 1985 to 1998. Lozen graduated from Michigan State University in 1984, with a bachelor of science degree in forensic science. Lozen has been a member of the MAFS since 1986, is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and is certified by the American Board of Criminalistics. Lozen received the MSP Professional Excellence Award in Sept. 2003.

Nutter joined the department in 1999 and currently works in Northville laboratory Microchemistry Unit. Prior to joining the Microchemistry Unit in 2001, Nutter served as a Biology/DNA Technician and Laboratory Safety Officer. Nutter graduated from Central Michigan University in 1998, with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. Nutter has been a member of the MAFS since 2000 and is also a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. In Sept. 2003, Nutter received the MSP Professional Excellence Award.
