Grand Rapids Resident Promoted To Captain And Sixth District Commander

April 21, 2005

East Lansing. Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Colonel Tadarial J. Sturdivant is pleased to announce the promotion of Inspector Gary Gorski to captain and commander of the Sixth District. The Sixth District headquarters is located in Grand Rapids.

As district commander, Gorski is responsible for the delivery of uniformed State Police services to 13 counties in central-west Michigan. The State Police uniformed services in the Sixth District provide traffic patrols, criminal investigations, emergency services and staffing for task forces and special investigative units.

Prior to his promotion, Gorski served as assistant First District commander, where he was responsible for aiding in the administration of uniformed officers, Motor Carrier officers and civilian members at eight posts covering nine counties.

Gorski joined the department in 1985, and graduated as a member of the 99th Recruit School. In his 20-year career, he has served at the Coldwater, Flat Rock, Gaylord, Grand Haven, Paw Paw and Rockford posts, as well as the Training Division, Region I Special Investigation Division, and the First District Headquarters.

During his career, Gorski has held ranks of trooper, sergeant, detective sergeant, lieutenant, detective lieutenant, first lieutenant, detective first lieutenant, inspector and captain.

In 2001, Gorski graduated from the 204th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Gorski currently resides in his hometown of Grand Rapids with his wife and three children.
