Summer Truck Enforcement Operations Net Results

Motor Carrier Division Reports Results of Special Operations

EAST LANSING. District supervisors from the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division have

conducted over 200 special truck enforcement operations this year under a grant received from the

Michigan Truck Safety Commission (MTSC).

Known as Special Transportation Enforcement Team (STET) operations, district lieutenants focus on

problem areas within their district or in combination with another district. The operations are intended to

make contact with drivers and companies who do not normally cross weigh stations, as well as provide a

visible enforcement presence on Michigan roadways.

Generally, officers target hazardous driving behaviors by commercial vehicle operators such as speeding

and following too close. In addition, commercial vehicle operators are checked for the proper license and

compliance with the hours of service regulations. While the operations are actually conducted yearround,

spring, summer and fall are the heaviest times for these operations.

The results for fiscal year 2005 show that officers issued 2,845 citations and conducted 1,559 safety

inspection under the MTSC grant operations.

Questions regarding STET operations should be directed to the district supervisor in your area (available

at www.michigan.gov/msp) or to Lieutenant David Ford of the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier

Division at (517) 336-6449.
