State Police Make Arrests For Solicitation To Commit Murder

Contact:  D/Sgt. Randy Graham, MSP Newberry Post, (906) 293-5152

November 14, 2006

Newberry - Officers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Newberry Post, in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Corrections, have foiled a plot by a man and woman from Petoskey to hire an inmate at the Newberry Correctional Facility to kill a corrections officer.

Former Newberry residents, Robert Dalgliesh, 43, and Tammy Williams, 40, were arraigned in the 92nd District Court on the charge of Solicitation to Commit Murder on November 9 and 10, respectively.  The charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.

Dalgliesh owns a business that delivers packages for Fed Ex.  While delivering to the Newberry Correctional Facility, Dalgliesh approached an inmate and offered him money to kill Williams' estranged husband, who is a corrections officer at the facility.  The prison inmate reported the matter to authorities, who alerted the MSP.

Investigation revealed the murder plot was conceived by Dalgliesh and Williams, who planned to gain financially if the death occurred in the prison, before Williams' divorce was final.

Dalgliesh and Williams are being held in the Chippewa County Jail pending further court hearings.  Bond has been set at $1 million, each.
