LANSING. At a special ceremony today in Lansing, Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Colonel Peter C. Munoz presented Trooper Stacy Baylis of the Hart Post with the MSP Lifesaving Award.
On May 4, 2009, Baylis responded to a residence where it was reported a male was suffering a possible heart attack. Upon arrival she found an unconscious man with no pulse and sporadic breathing. Baylis immediately began administering first aid and was soon assisted by emergency medical personnel. The man's heart began to beat again after an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was used to administer a shock. The man was then transported to the hospital.
Upon reviewing the circumstances of this incident, the MSP Board of Awards concluded Baylis' quick actions and knowledge of first aid techniques helped extend the man's life.
Baylis enlisted with the department in 1993, graduating as a member of the 108th Trooper Recruit School. After graduation she was assigned to the Hart Post.
