LANSING. Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Colonel Peter C. Munoz has recognized Motor Carrier Officer Robert Lechtanski of the Second District Headquarters and Trooper Randy Parros of the Detroit Post with the MSP Lifesaving Award. They are credited with performing significant actions resulting in the saving of a life.
On July 1, 2008, Lechtanski responded to a citizen complaint of a possible drunk driver. He located a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road, and found the driver was intoxicated and the passenger unconscious and not breathing.
Lechtanski removed the passenger from the vehicle and began administering first aid. Parros arrived and assisted until emergency medical personnel responded.
Upon reviewing the circumstances of this incident, the MSP Board of Awards concluded the quick actions and knowledge of first aid techniques by Lechtanski and Parros saved the subject's life.
Lechtanski joined the department in 2002, graduating as a member of the 14th Motor Carrier Recruit School. Prior to his assignment at the Second District Headquarters, he served at the Monroe Post.
Parros enlisted with the department in 1999, graduating as a member of the 118th Trooper Recruit School. Prior to his assignment at the Detroit Post, he served at the Reed City Post.
