Detroit Native Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel

East Lansing - Michigan State Police Director Col. Tadarial J. Sturdivant is pleased Lt. Col. Peter Munozto announce the promotion of Captain Peter Munoz of the First District Headquarters to lieutenant colonel and commander of the Uniform Services Bureau.

 

As commander of the Uniform Services Bureau, Munoz provides executive direction and leadership to more than 2,044 enlisted and civilian employees assigned to the bureau’s 64 posts, the Special Operations Division, and the Motor Carrier Division.

 

Munoz enlisted with the department in 1978 as a member of the 95th Recruit School. He was first assigned to the Flat Rock Post and has since served at the Detroit and Ypsilanti posts, as well as serving as post commander at the Adrian Post. Munoz has also worked in the Recruiting Section, Personnel Division; the Governor’s Security Section, Executive Division; and the Affirmative Action Office, Office of the Director. In his 24 years with the department, Munoz has held the ranks of trooper, sergeant, first lieutenant, inspector, and captain.

 

As district commander, Munoz supervised operations of all posts in the First District. The First District includes eight posts located in Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Hillsdale, Ingham, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston and Shiawassee counties.

 

Munoz holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Detroit. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. A native of Detroit, Munoz now lives in Okemos with his wife, Julia, and their three children.
