The Search for Scott A. Woodring; State Police Urge Him to Surrender Peacefully

July 11, 2003

East Lansing - The Michigan State Police are continuing their investigation and search for fugitive felon Scott A. Woodring. State Police officials are hoping that Woodring will turn himself in, bringing this situation to a peaceful end.

At this time, more than 200 tips have been received. Tips place Woodring in many areas of the state.

The focus of the investigation remains on a tip that came in late Wednesday night that places Woodring on foot in the south-central part of Lincoln Township in Newaygo County near the White River.

Uniform Troopers and Emergency Support Team members are searching this area sector by sector. They are going house by house and cabin by cabin in a thorough sweep of the area. Canine Units remain on standby at this time.

The Michigan State Police is being assisted by several other agencies, including the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service, U.S. Marshals Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), as well as many local and county police agencies.

The subject, who we believe might be Woodring, was described as wearing blue jeans, a gray T-shirt and carrying a black camouflage backpack.

Woodring is considered to be armed and extremely dangerous; he should not be approached. Anyone who believes they have seen Woodring should call 911 or the tip center at 1-800-991-TIPS (8477).

Michigan State Police detectives, who are currently processing Woodring’s residence in Fremont, report that they have recovered Trooper Kevin Marshall’s weapon in the debris.
