New Motor Carrier Commander for Southwest Michigan

Paw Paw.  The Michigan State Police has announced the promotion of Sgt. Geraldine Burton to Lieutenant as commander of the Motor Carrier Division operations for the 5th District.  The 5th District encompasses most of southwest Michigan, including Battle Creek, Coldwater, Kalamazoo, Benton Harbor, and Wayland.

 

As the Motor Carrier Division District Commander, Lieutenant Burton is responsible for the oversight of two permanent weigh stations (the Coldwater scales on I-69 and the Bridgman scales on I-94), as well as providing leadership for the daily activities of three sergeants, and 22 motor carrier officers.

 

As part of her duties, Lieutenant Burton will serve on traffic safety committees focusing on commercial vehicle safety and act as a clearinghouse for commercial vehicle issues.

 

During her 19-year career, Lieutenant Burton served at the New Buffalo Post from 1984-1989 as a motor carrier officer, promoted to sergeant and transferred to the Pontiac Post in 1989, and in 1992 she transferred to the New Buffalo Post as a sergeant.

 

A native of Eau Claire, Lieutenant Burton and her husband Albert currently live in Eau Claire with their two children.
